Employment Training & Support

ETS participants

 The purpose of the Training and Support Program is to create an opportunity for participants to explore options that allow personal growth, new life experiences, and opportunity to have choice and a variety of self directed activities. The Employment Training and Support Program has developed a multitude of training options and learning experiences that encompass all current programs offered, and utilize community and staff expertise to facilitate program options.

Program options include:

  • Food Services/Restaurant Skills
  • Hot Lunch Program
  • Packaging and Assembly Work
  • Lawn and Ground Maintenance  (Landscaping)
  • Card making/Creative Trinkets
  • Scents and Soaps
  • Janitorial Services
  • Janitorial Training

The participants work with a supervisor to promote the training necessary to achieve their highest quality of work ethics. These programs provide unique life experiences for the participants and assist with independence with their life goals.

Food Services Program

The Food Services Program focuses on essential knowledge and understanding of food and nutrition. It stresses the importance of making healthy food choices in order to promote the well being of individuals and families. The Program also aims to develop self-reliance, independence, and positive social skills as well as teach basic life skills and knowledge that all individuals need. This program offers catering to a variety of events throughout the month.  The Food Services Program also offers online ordering through our website.  Each participant is trained in various tasks to meet the standard of today’s work environments.

Hot Lunch Program

The Hot Lunch Program is to provide the skills needed to enter into the Food Services Program.  This program supports participants in the necessary skill sets that will give the basic knowledge and abilities that are required in the food industry.

Packaging and Assembly

Packaging and Assembly crew can work at your location or at ours, whichever works best for the contractor.

  • Mail-Outs, Envelope Stuffing, Tri-Folds
  • Labeling
  • Attaching Samples to Brochures
  • Laminating
  • Collating
  • Hand Crafted Greeting bags
  • Independent Receptionist training – answering phones, taking messages, filing.

We are always open to taking on new contracts which builds upon the participants skills.   A component to this program is also the operating of an in house coffee shop.  This allows for the training in customer service, money management and many additional skills.

 Lawn and Ground Maintenance (Landscaping)

Training thru the Lawn and Ground Maintenance goal is to give all the necessary skills to work independently.  The following list is the service/training we provide.

Weekly Lawn & Garden Care:

  • Cut and trim lawn (clippings bagged and swept)
  • Garden and flower beds weeded
  • Maintain shrubs
  • Grass bag removal service available where no
  • Municipal bag pick-up is provided at no charge

Fall clean up:

  • Raking of leaves and debris
  • Fall pruning and preparation
  • Cleaning and Edging of flower beds
  • Final lawn cutting
  • General clean up

Additional Services:

  • Parking lot clean up
  • Rubbish removal
  • Power-washing
  • Strata’s

Spring Clean up:

  • Raking of leaves and debris
  • Cleaning and Edging of flower beds
  • Pruning of rose bushes
  • Trimming of shrubs

Cards Making/Creative Trinkets

Card Services offers unique quality handcrafted items. As the program has expanded the Card Services has branched out into making unique hand crafted wine charms, no two are the same. Book marks with recycled materials.

  • Christmas Cards
  • Custom Cards for any occasion.

Scents and Soaps

In the Soaps and Scents lab, handcrafted body, bath and Candle products are created. They can take specialty orders in 22 different glorious scents. As well as Men’s body wash, Body Glitter, Perfume Rollers and Intensive Moisturizer.  With the opportunity to expand on the products we currently offer.

Available in bathroom size or handy travel/gift set are the following:

  • Body Lotion
  • Shower Gel
  • Bubble Bath

A variety of soaps available are:

  • Aloe Vera Soap
  • Goat Milk Soap
  • Shea Butter

 

A variety of candles that can be personalized to your color and scent preference

  • Beeswax – in a variety of shapes and sizes

Janitorial Services

The main objective of the Janitorial Services program is to positively support and train participants to become progressive in building cleaning and maintenance tasks that they are performing, with the final goal of achieving gainful employment.

Janitorial Training

When Semiahmoo House Society opened up Employment Training and Support’s new buildings it was discovered that there was a need for an additional Janitorial Service to maintain custodial duties.  It models the now established Janitorial Services.
