District DAZE

Parents May choose to put their child in the regular day 9:00-3:00 ($39.00) and their fee for ASK ($19.50) will cover the extended day until 5:30. Staffing Ratio- 3:1 as a fundraised program we cannot provide a higher staffing ratio. If your child requires more staffing support, please contact the program manager prior to registration.

Summer Daze

What are they all about?

If you are between the ages of 13 – 19 and are interested in great outings and activities with your peers, then SummerDAZE is a cool way for you to spend your summer! Among some of the exciting outings are trips to the beach, parks, Cultus Lake, Splashdown, Kits, Granville Island, Greater Vancouver Zoo, the Aquarium, Science World... plus there are many interactive activities such as sports and arts and crafts!

Staff provide a structured yet fun environment with an abundance of fun activities, while offering youth the opportunity to make friends. SummerDAZE camps are day camps that run 9 – 3:00 Monday through Friday for youth with developmental disabilities. Register by the week for an unlimited amount of camps. Kidz ages 9 – 12 are welcome to join us for weeks #3 and #9. Cost includes staffing, transportation and admissions. Families are required to send a lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen, and a hat with their child daily.

Registration is based on the entire week. Registration for a day here, or a day there throughout the summer is NOT permitted!

Awesome Adapted Camps

Priority will be given to individuals who do not otherwise have a day program or alternate care during these camps. This will ensure the families who require these camps as an essential service will be supported first!

What's so awesome about these camps?

Local Leisure DAZE – Here?s your chance to venture around the Lower Mainland via transit... as a group you will choose and plan where you want to go and learn how to access the routes and which buses to take. This is a great opportunity to learn while having fun!

Rec Rockers Band Camp – Jamming! We?re jamming! Hope you like jamming too! This week will be a real school of rock! Participants will get a chance to specialize in the instrument of their choice while learning how every instrument works! The week will also include a field trip and drum-making workshop! And we will be recording a short CD of our songs! All instruments welcome, no experience necessary. Taught by Music Therapist Katherine Graff.

Semi Famous Musical Theatre – This week long class will focus on all aspects of creating a movie musical. We will be making props, designing sets, finding costumes, recording a sound track, singing, dancing, and yelling ACTION!!! All in one week! This will be a high energy class! We will have a special screening for families and friends on the last day of class! Taught by Music Therapist Katherine Graff.

Sportstars – Spend your week playing interactive sports such as volleyball, soccer, hockey, and dodge ball at various parks and beaches throughout the lower mainland. Swimming and golf are also among some of the outings! Come join us and enjoy a week being super active with your friends!

Trips

Camp Elphinstone

Camp Elphinstone is FULL. Please contact the program coordinator Candice Gray at c.gray@shsbc.ca if you would like to be put on the waitlist.

 Monday, June 18 – Thursday, June 21 This is the most talked about and anticipated trip of the year! And why wouldn’t it be? It’s a camp located on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, with your amazing friends and Rec & Leisure staff! You’ll experience great food and ac- commodations and an exciting four days of new activities with your friends. You’ll get to try and learn numerous outdoor activities such as archery, canoeing, discovery hikes, forest studies, outdoor living skills (fire and shelters), high and low ropes, and orienteering. We are going to have 2 Camp Specialists who will set up our daily programs filled with these great activities and games. All of our meals and snacks will be provided. If you would like to see what this camp is all about please visit www.vanymca.org and go to Camp Elphinstone where you can read all about what is offered at this truly amazing camp. Cost: $535 + $64.20 tax = $599.20 (includes transportation, lodging, activities, support staff, ferries, and all meals and snacks) The price for Camp Elphinstone has been increased by $40, which is $10/day more. This increase covers the increased costs to the camp per person as well as the increased fees for the Camp Specialists. We thank you for your understanding that all costs must be entirely covered by the camper fees. Ages: 13 and up. Cultus Lake

 Tuesday, August 7 – Friday, August 10 This is a fun filled 4 day trip where you will spend your time swimming, tubing, water sliding, mini-golfing, playing beach volleyball, and hanging out with your friends.What a cool trip this is gonna be! We?re booked for 4-days, 3-nights at the Cabins at Cultus Lake Park. We will be located right across the street from Cultus Lake and Giggle Ridge mini-golf. Plus, we?re going to be spending a day at the waterslides which are right next to us! This is gonna be a splashin? great time! Here?s your chance to come chill out, swim, suntan, hike, golf, waterslide and participate in many more exciting activities for 4 full days .... and the BONUS is that all of this is with your friends!

Cost: $535 + 64.20 HST = $599.20 (includes transportation, accommodations, waterslides, support staff and food)

Hawaii March 2013

Hawaii 2013 - Exact dates have yet to be determined.

Aloha! Hawaii, here we come! Next March, we are soaring to the beautiful destination of Honolulu, Hawaii for 6 nights and 7 days of absolute paradise.The price includes your airfare out of Bellingham on Alaska Airlines, accommodations, staffing, some meals, a rental vehicle which we will have for the entire week to do our own discovering, a 5 hour tour of Pearl Harbour, snorkeling rentals in Hanauma Bay, the Sea Life Park and Swim with the dolphins, and also Germaine?s Luau. That?s pretty spectacular!

Staffing Ratio: 5:1 This ratio is strictly enforced, if you would like to send a caregiver, please contact the Rec & Leisure Program Manager at 604-536-1242 (x255) prior to registration day.

Airline: Alaska Airlines. We will be flying out of Bellingham, parents must provide their child?s transportation to and from the airport.
Accommodations: Ohana Waikiki West
Meals: We will be booking kitchenette rooms so the cost includes most of the meals that will be prepared by staff and travelers at the hotel. Spending money will be necessary for travelers for the odd meal out.

Cost: Tentatively $2095 + 251.40 HST = $2346.40. Trip Cancellation and Medical is MANDATORY and is already included in this price.

This trip requires a minimum number of travelers. For those going, a 10 month payment plan will begin in May 2012 – February 2013, with a $150 non-refundable deposit due at the time of registration in April.The breakdown: $2346.40 – 150 deposit (April) = $2196. $219.60 (10 months, May 2012 – February 2013).
